caring for Carers
Carers
- You're feeling overwelmed and your tank is running low.
- There never seems to be enough time for you and your needs.
- You often experience guilt, despite giving it all.
- You want to find some balance in your life.
- You are concerned about your stress levels and overall health
- You don't want to burden your family or friends.
- Stress is impacting your caring role.
I believe carers deserve to feel supported and valued, and not feel that they have to compromise their own wellbeing to carry out their role.
My wish for you, as a carer, is to experience support and peace of mind, knowing that there is a time and space for you to offload the burdens you carry and recharge.
Our work together provides you with practical strategies and emotional support to help you better manage the unique challenges and stresses that come with being a carer, so that you can approach your caregiving duties with renewed energy and resilience.
Australian journal of general practice, 2019
The prevalence of high psychological stress in primary carers of people with disability is almost three times higher than that of the general population.
Experience
Carer support has been a major focus of my professional life. As a speech pathologist specialising in stroke recovery, I have assisted many caregivers. I’ve trained and worked with volunteer carers in various settings and am currently providing coaching for disability support workers.
I was involved in the design and implementation of one-day workshops called Caring for Carers, held in various Melbourne hospitals for nursing staff.
In addition, I was involved in co-designing and facilitating the “Fill Up Your Tank” workshops.
I can help you:
- Manage stress and prevent compassion fatique
- Develop healthy coping strategies to prevent burnout
- Process feelings of grief, guilt or anger
- Develop patience and empathy for responsive caregiving
- Feel deeply heard and understood
- Explore your strengths and what is important to you
- Expand your skills and insight
- Develop a practical and sustainable self-care plan
- Maintain a sense of purpose and appreciate the meaningful role you play
acknowledgement of country
My office is in Eltham, inhabited for thousands of years by the Wurundjeri-Willam clan (‘white gum dwellers’) of the Woi-wurrung-speaking people. I acknowledge their elders, past, present and emerging and their traditional healing ways.
